The handle is made of Pakka wood, compressed and stained for frequent use and abuse. Open the blade using either of the two methods you prefer. It can be deployed automatically by rotating the hidden release. Alternatively you can fold it open with the thumb stud. This blade locks in place very well, resisting reverse impact and forward piercing.
